yesterday we hiked at pipers

Last night we went for a hike at Piper's Lagoon. I wanted to search for dilling's elusive chocolate lilies. It was the first warm, summery evening we've had. The tide was pretty high, which meant rock climbing. When it's low, we can just walk across the expanse in front of Katie.

There were wildflowers galore. Galore.

In the grasses, between the rocks, amongst the Garry Oaks. All colours and sizes.

I love these blue lupin like, lily like thingys.

Finally, climbing down through the grass, I spotted three perfect, tiny chocolate lilies. You won't see pictures, my battery was dead. I cried. I really did. By the weekend they will probably all be done. But I saw them.

Does anyone wonder why I usually only have pictures of Katie? Besides the fact that my son hates being blogged, there's this issue...

Need I say more?

Seems like you have a lot of wonderful venues around there to walk/hike/visit/enjoy. I love the lupin! Beautiful! So sorry about the dead battery. Such is the bane of my picture-taking — never fails. (That and the delay with my lame shutter that inevitably makes the shot too late to capture that special instant).

It's still coolish weather, maybe they'll still be there...

It is just so beautiful back home, I can't believe I have forgotten the exquisite quality of the Island's beauty. Why is your son holding a bird?

Isn't it amazing how quickly faces disappear when the camera comes out?

Well, I'd cry . . . but you got me so psyched to see chocolate lilies, which sound delicious, BTW, that I'm rather to stunned to cry.

Something similar happened on my first child's first birthday. Instead of dead batteries, I was actually taking the best photos ever . . . with no film. And the next year? Well, it was his second birthday. Not as big of a deal.

What a pain though, I do commiserate.
